Las tentaciones de San Antonio
Este es el ejemplo más grande y mejor conservado de las numerosas versiones de La tentación de San Antonio de Teniers. El tema fantástico (un ermitaño acosado por vívidas alucinaciones) atrajo al gran maestro de la pintura de género de Amberes. Aquí Teniers incorpora, en una sola composición, dos tipos de “tentaciones”: las visiones eróticas y el asalto de los demonios. La figura de la hermosa mujer que le ofrece una bebida a San Antonio es especialmente digna de atención por ser la unión perfecta de la seducción y el terror (véanse, por ejemplo, las garras que asoman bajo su rica indumentaria).
