New Executive Leadership at the Museo de Arte de Ponce

We are pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees of the Luis A. Ferré Foundation has appointed Attorney Marcos G. Montero González as the new Executive Director of the Museo de Arte de Ponce. This appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the institution, as repair work on the Museum is set to begin soon.
Marcos began his career at the Museum nearly 17 years ago as a grant writer and events coordinator. Since then, he has taken on positions of increasing leadership responsibility, holding key roles such as Grants, Major Gifts, and Compliance Officer; Chief of Operations and Sustainability; Director of Operations and Sustainability; Associate Deputy Director and Director of Development and Communications; Chief Operating Officer; and, most recently, Interim Executive Director.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Art History with a second concentration in Comparative Literature from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. He is an attorney and notary public, with a Juris Doctor from the same institution’s School of Law and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) with a concentration in Intellectual Property from the University of New Hampshire. His legal practice has focused on intellectual property, trademark and copyright law, as well as estates and notarial practice. In addition, he has served as a professor of Art Appreciation and Art Law at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico and the University of Puerto Rico.
María Luisa Ferré Rangel, President of the Board of Trustees of the Luis A. Ferré Foundation, stated: “Marcos has demonstrated strong, approachable leadership and a deep commitment to our institution. During a period marked by significant challenges, he has provided stability, strengthened our internal processes, and moved forward decisively on key initiatives for the Museum’s present and future. His deep knowledge of the organization, his ability to listen, his sense of justice, and his strategic vision have been fundamental throughout this journey. His leadership has inspired confidence. Moreover, over time he has built strong and close relationships with the community, institutions, donors, as well as key stakeholders, collaborators, and partners, strengthening the network that sustains the Museum.”
For his part, Marcos shared: “Assuming the Executive Directorship of the Museo de Arte de Ponce is a profound honor. This institution has shaped both my professional and personal path, and I am proud to place the experience I have gained over the years at the service of the Museum. It is a way of giving back everything it has given me since my childhood. I firmly believe in its mission, its people, and its ability to renew itself without losing its essence. Through collaborative work, vision, and commitment, we will continue to strengthen the Museum so that it remains a vibrant, relevant, and accessible space for our community and for future generations.”
With this appointment, the Board reaffirms its full confidence in his vision, his deep institutional knowledge, and his ability to lead the Museum into a new phase of strengthening, sustainability, and service.
We look to the future with optimism and with a renewed commitment to working together in support of the legacy of the Museo de Arte de Ponce.
