Virgen con el Niño
Luca di Tommè creó este panel en Siena como parte central de un retablo. Es posible que en los paneles laterales faltantes estuvieran representados dos, o quizás cuatro, santos de pie. Luca, por lo general, colocaba sus figuras apretadas contra los bordes de la composición, como lo demuestra aquí el pergamino del Niño Jesús, que se pliega al tocar el arco gótico. El Niño tiene una plétora de atributos simbólicos. Lleva una cruz griega y un pedazo de coral, que según la leyenda era protección contra el mal, y tira del velo blanco de su madre (una referencia en el arte antiguo italiano al sudario en que habría de ser amortajado un día).
