Vis á Vis: Artists from Ponce in dialogue with the collection

Three artists from Ponce were invited to select an artwork from the collection of Museo de Arte de Ponce to study face to face and in detail during a special visit to the Musewm. This experience served them as inspiration to create artworks in response, which are presented for the first time in this exhibition together with the selected examples from the collection.

The artists participating in the first edition of Vis-à-vis, Robin Alice, Nel Figueroa, and Jaime Rosa, know the Museum’s collection intimately. They all retain memories of visits made from an early age, remember particular artworks that made a great impression on them, and even serendipitous encounters with the founder of the Museum, Luis A. Ferré. As they themselves affirm, the Museum has been a continuous source of inspiration for their artistic production.

With initiatives like this one, the Museum seeks to strengthen ties with the community to which it belongs, especially with artists residing in Ponce. At the same time, one of Ferré’s main goals becomes a reality: establish an art collection that “not only delights the general public, but also inspires our fellow citizens to make more and better art” (1964).
